Katie is a graduate student at the University of Denver getting her master’s in Social Work, with the goal of becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Katie has been a Board-Certified Music Therapist since 2012. She began her journey as a music therapist at an acute psychiatric hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. There she used music to facilitate healing, open communication, promote group cohesion, and increase self-esteem across ages and populations. She also developed a private music therapy practice, serving several families in the Jackson area.
In March of 2015, Katie moved to Nashville where she began a position as an Experiential Therapist at Rogers Behavioral Health. Here she treats children and adults diagnosed with OCD, eating disorders, mood disorders, and other anxiety related disorders. Katie is trained in exposure response prevention (ERP) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as well as mindfulness interventions and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills. Katie believes that rapport, creativity, and humor are vital aspects to the client-therapist relationship and brings these into her practice. She likes to spend time with her fur children whenever possible, playing fetch in the back yard or in the lake, going for walks, or their favorite- laying on the couch under blankets. She also practices yoga to bring in balance through her mind, body, and spirit- or just have a dance party on her mat.
