Dr. Hillary (Henize) Freshley is a licensed clinical psychologist with a passion for providing highly individualized evidence-based treatment for OCD, anxiety, and related disorders. She was one of the original clinical team members here at the NOATC at the time of its founding in 2018. Dr. Freshley received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University (Louisville, KY) and her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Behavioral Neuroscience from Centre College (Danville, KY). She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship training at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System and postdoctoral training right here at the NOATC! Dr. Freshley currently serves as a clinical supervisor for the Vanderbilt University PhD program in Clinical Psychology. She is a member of the APA, IOCDF, and Association for Contextual Behavioral Science.
In addition to her work with OC-spectrum and anxiety disorders, Dr. Freshley has specialized interest and experience in the treatment of trauma-related disorders (PE & CPT for PTSD), disordered eating, ADHD (with co-occurring OCD/anxiety), and attachment-related concerns. Her approach to therapy is highly collaborative and integrative, drawing from cognitive-behavioral (e.g. ACT, ERP) and interpersonal/relational perspectives. She believes that everyone’s story is unique and cannot be treated with a one-size-fits-all approach.
Above all else, Hillary strives to maintain a sense of compassion, openness, and authenticity in all of her work. She works to create an atmosphere of respect and empowerment for individuals of all statuses, identities, and backgrounds. Hillary believes that a safe and collaborative therapeutic relationship is the foundation for positive change in therapy. She is passionate about helping clients learn to navigate their fears with courage and self-compassion.
Outside of the clinic, some of Hillary’s pastimes include oil painting, DIY home projects, and trying not to kill her house plants. She loves spending time with her husband, family, friends, and 13-year-old Beagle mix, Lucie!
